Taylor Cottle
Taylor Cottle, PhD
Principal, Cottle Life Science Advisory

I'm a biochemist who left the bench to build companies. I founded a therapeutics company and a diagnostics company, raised capital for both, licensed IP out of a university, and sold to our first customers myself. Today I run US scientific communication for a commercial-stage biotech and sell a medical device into hospitals.

I started Cottle Life Science Advisory to give life science companies commercial advice from someone who can read their data.

I trained as a biochemist and biophysicist at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. My thesis work was on single-molecule and genome imaging methods. I published in Molecular Cell, Nature Communications, and Trends in Genetics, filed a patent on a chromatin imaging method, and held an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.

During the PhD I founded two companies: Aptabridge Therapeutics, an aptamer drug delivery platform for lymphoma, and SHARP Diagnostics, an isothermal amplification diagnostic. I raised dilutive and non-dilutive capital for both at the pre-seed stage, negotiated an IP license with a university technology transfer office, built the founding and advisory teams, and signed the first ten pilot customers by direct outreach. I was an Activate Fellow and a Hopkins President's Venture Fellow.

At a global diagnostics company I built the go-to-market plan for an FDA-cleared sepsis detection platform, including the sizing of a 7,000-hospital market and the rollout plan. I led the Hopkins Biotech Network for five years and co-founded Nucleate Baltimore.

Today I direct US scientific communication for a commercial-stage biotech, sell a medical device into hospitals, lecture at the University of San Diego, and am finishing an MBA at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

Outside of work I play cello, coached a masters swim team for four years, and am an Eagle Scout.
